Monster
The movie “Monster,” is based on a true story about a serial killer named Aileen Wuornos. Aileen works as a prostitute in the Daytona Beach area. One day Aileen meets this lady named Shelby at the bar. At first Aileen acts somewhat hostile to her, but then later on Shelby and Aileen become girlfriends. Aileen tells Shelby she would take care of her and make her all the money she needs. One night when Aileen goes to prostitute to make some money, she gets beat by this dude really bad and he raped her with a pole. Aileen locates a gun in the man’s car when he’s looking for something in the trunk. She managed to untie herself and shot him until every bullet was gone. After this is when Aileen began to take her customers out in secluded areas, kill them, and take their money. The acting in this movie had to have been the best acting I have seen based on a true story, and in my own personal opinion is that the film was a great success and kept me focused.
The way the actress Charlize Theron, who played Aileen acted in this movie was tremendous. She actually looked like a crazy psycho and talked like a psycho it was great. I’m pretty sure that Aileen was somewhat of a decent person before she got raped and beat, but after that she just took men to a whole other level. The expressions on her face after she’d kill one of her victims, was awesome. She had the eyes of a killer and a look to kill. My favorite part in the movie was when a man named Will was going to pay her for sex and wanted Aileen to call him “daddy.” Aileen started make comments to him like, “Why you like to fuck your kids” she makes a couple more remarks, kills him, and then calls him a child molester. I think the way she acted in that scene was so awesome because she had so much intensity and you can tell she just thought he was a pig and that all men were like that. I think that if Aileen wouldn’t have been brutally raped like that she wouldn’t have been the way that she was.
Shelby on the other hand kind of bugged me throughout the movie. I’m not saying she did a bad job acting I think she did really great which is why I think I got annoyed with her. Shelby throughout the movie would constantly bitch and nag about money and her wanting to do all these things, go see the world, go out with people, and get a place to live and so on. That wasn’t the only thing she complained about though. She would always nag to Aileen that she was never home to be with her. Shelby wanted all these things but yet, how is she suppose to get them unless her Aileen goes to get the money. To me it seemed like Aileen cared and tried harder in their relationship than Shelby did. Aileen was crazier but it seemed as if she did really love her and would do anything for her.
I would rate this movie 5 out of 5 stars because most of the time I will fall asleep through a movie, or forget I am even watching one. Even if one is not into movies like this one, I strongly suggest giving this movie (based on a true story) a try. The intensity and wonderful acting of the movie will have your attention. Monster definitely made me want to see the documentary film, Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer.
Orwell’s essay, “Shooting an Elephant” is about him working as a police officer in lower Burma. Orwell doesn’t’ really like his job especially how the Burma people treat him. They seem to insult, sneer, and laugh at him when he walks by and walking away. It is one day when Orwell gets a call from the sub inspector from the police station. The sub inspector informs Orwell that there is a ravaging elephant in the bazaar and if he would take care of it. The choice Orwell makes will leave him with a guilty conscience, a follower, and a person who hides behind a mask.
Orwell states throughout his essay that he had no intention to shoot the elephant. The owner was gone and he only took the gun in fear of his own life to scare it. “As soon as I saw the elephant I knew with perfect certainty I ought not to shoot him” says Orwell when he finds the elephant peacefully eating. He really did not want to shoot the elephant he said over and over. When the crowd of Burmans was all standing behind him, they were cheering and had happy faces wanting him to shoot. Orwell has to come up with a decision if he is going to shoot the elephant, or leave it there until his owner gets back. “Seemingly the leading actor of the piece; but in reality I was only an absurd puppet pushed to and fro by the will of those yellow faces behind.” Orwell went from not wanting to shoot the elephant to doing what the crowd wanted him to do. A crowd who laughed and sneered or tripped him when he walked by. These were the people Orwell felt like he had to impress or they’d end up laughing at him. That was all he worried about was what they were going to thing so he shot it.
In Orwell’s essay he chooses to “wear a mask that is fit to his face” and be something he wasn’t. Orwell decided to give in to the Burmans by shooting the elephant which is what they wanted. He said when the owner came back he was angry about it. I think that he should have stuck to his instinct by not shooting the elephant. He just wanted to prove himself to the people of Burma although he had nothing to prove to these people. I think that he should have been a leader and stuck to his intentions. Shooting the elephant only made Orwell a follower and someone who he isn’t and now he has to deal with the guilt and grief from the shooting of the elephant.
Food
As people we need to eat to be healthy and stay alive. In the movie Food Inc., it shows what is going on with the food we eat. When the food gets processed they do it as fast and cheap as possible, which can lead to e-coli or other illness.
I think that they need to get more…
You know I think your right. We deserve to know how our food is processed and the industry should not have the right to keep the cameras out. However, do we really want to know? When I go to a restaurant, I really don’t want to know what goes on behind the scenes. I would rather eat my meal in blissful ignorance. Do we really need some regulatory agency to tell us that nacho cheese (which is only cheese if you define the term very loosely) is not good for us? Do we really need the government to tell us it is unhealthy to eat at fast food joints all the time? How much responsibility do we have as individuals to decide what we eat?
thats true too i eat fastfood alot and would rather not know exactly what was in it. We do have a responsibity as individuals what we eat i just think companys could be more responsible with being sanitary

I think that they need to get more workers to inspect and keep up with the cleaning and maintenance. It states in the movie that all the cows would stand in manure all day, which is one of the main causes of e-coli. As many cows are in the slaughter houses, you can’t tell me that every single one is sanitary before they’re processed. It’s pretty disgusting to think that is what we are eating and just because it’s packaged and from the company it is ok.
Food Inc. also shows how they give the chickens a medicine or a type of steroid to make them grow faster and plumper. When they do this it is probably unhealthy for the chicken much less the person eating it. I find it funny how none of the people who ran the chicken or cow plants, wouldn’t let the people with the cameras film what exactly is going on in the plants.
Christopher told Vikus that he would be back for him in three years. What do you think will happen when he comes back?
i think by the time Christopher comes back, it’ll have been awhile and Vikus would probably get used to it.
